Take Pictures Like A Pro

Vary the angle at which you take shots to increase their artistic value. There’s nothing unique about snapping a picture from a straight-on angle. Look up at things from the ground, or peer over the top of objects. Other interesting alternatives are framing your subject from a diagonal or sideways view.

If you aren’t practicing, you aren’t improving; this remains true for photography. Now that digital photography is mainstream, there is no need to be afraid to take lots and lots of pictures in order gain experience. There is no need to worry about wasting film these days, so even if you get ten bad shots for every good one, you are learning from your mistakes.

For a gripping photo, experiment with depth of field. Focus on your subject by using a smaller depth of field, and slightly blur your background. This technique is great for portraits or close ups. The bigger the f-stop number, the bigger the depth of field. This means that if your depth of field is larger, then a larger portion of the picture will appear focused on. This works well to photograph landscape.

There is a feature on the camera called white balance, manually play around with it. When you are taking shots inside, you can get a yellow tint due to light bulbs. You could change the room’s lighting, but instead look to your camera‘s white balance setting. It can completely change the feel of the room. You will see your photos come out much more professionally.

Blur the background of shots with people in them just a little bit. If the background is just as in focus as the subject, it takes the eye away from where you the viewer should be looking. If you put some distance between your background and your subject, it helps viewers focus on the subject of your photograph.

Look for inspiration in the ordinary. Use your camera to make everyday items look artistic. It can be anything from a kitchen sink to a pencil; play around with both composition and form. How unique you want to make you picture is entirely up to you. Be sure to always challenge yourself, to better your work.

As was mentioned at the beginning of this article, photography is a pastime that appeals to many people. However, the depth and breadth of the information out there on photography dissuades many from trying to expand their skills beyond taking the occasional snapshot.
